What is the best way to find a Guild in Guild Wars. The Guilds Database in GW Guru seems to be way out of date. You can post obviously in the stickied thread in here but that relies on active recruiters to be looking through those posts and as their is no discussion within the thread you get very little if any feel for the Guilds out their.

Would it be worth either using this forum or creating a new area where Guilds can post a single recruiting threads which they can then add to etc.

Or is there a better place to find a Guild?

The 'recruiter' should whisper you on here, from there it is up to you and him/her to establish means of contact.

you also have the 'guild website' thread that will give you an idea of the different guilds and what they are about.

gwonline has a more open guild forum, but you will have to read through much junk, as guilds can only update their post like once a month I believe.

guildportal also host many gw guild sites.

but still here is the easiest way to do it, you post who you are, what you are looking for and the guild leaders/officers do the work.

Is there a particular guild you are looking for? As far as I know there is no centralized system to find out what guilds there are, let alone having a description of what they do, who's part of it, etc.

If you're looking for a type of guild with a certain philosophy/style, and not a particular guild, I'd recommend the "Looking for guild" thread here.

Yeah, no centralized system, that would be a nice feature for ANET to add at some point. But I guess due to the vast number of guilds, it would be a huge list (mostly of two or three member guilds, lol).

Indeed, it would be a good idea to have some kind of centralized guild recruiting system, with a descrption of what the guilds and what are their goals and stuff. Right now, finding a guild has become too much of a pain. (Notice what I said under guild)

I was never one to trust 26 pages long sticky thread. If I was a recruit, I would never bother reading through all those pages and then messaging all those peoples only to find that most of them is already in a guild.

Actually I think the monstrous "Looking for guild" thread here is very effective. I certainly have been using it to recruit. (Side note - shamelessly plugging my guild Aequitas Deis

)

The people we recruited via that thread said they received numerous PM's from the forum - so I think this method works rather well.

my guild has mainly recruited people ingame, when we do missions with people or they guest with us in a gvg and ask to join us, or we're all doing something like dancing in a random city and people ask for info

So just keep your eyes open ingame

My guild has recently started actively recruiting and a centralized system would be incredibly helpful. I've selected about four sites I check on a regular basis so that I'm familiar with the threads and recruiting rules they have. I actually like the long LFG thread as I can pop in, go to the last page and read any new post that have appeared since my last visit. Whenever I see someone that might be a good fit I either send them a PM with some information about us or forward their info to my recruiting officer.

It's a lot of work but rest assured that there are quite a few active recruiters out there. The best thing to do is just get your preferences and interests posted and find somewhere that you can look at recruiting guilds "advertisements". Good luck with your search!

I totally agree, the "looking for guild" thread has been working well for us as well.

It does take a little bit of leg work, but it's nice, that people post their preferences and then I can send PMs to only people who fit closely to our guild philosophy. It doesn't give you an idea of how they play in-game of course, but helps you to understand where people are coming from (recently from a large guild, looking for a smaller one, for example).

Hell threee of them described our guild to a "T" as the guild they were looking for. I send them a nice email "whisper" and a link to the web site....then...nothing...

not a "no thanks"
not a "thank you but we've found a guild"
not a "&&^$ OFF!"

I wonder if ppl remember to come back and check their messages?

I can only tell you what my experience has been so far, I haven't seen your website or anything so I can't tell you why no one responds. I have seen some websites that are.....pretty barebones, which I would assume is less appealling. Something else to consider, is that there are many people looking for members, these people probably get dozens (maybe more?) PMs from various guilds, so it is a competition for members. Though I have gotten a thank you for your interest, but we have selected another guild message. To be honest, I was shocked. I figured people who weren't interested just wouldn't respond.

Hmm,

Our website isn't an amazing Photoshop award winner,
but I wouldn't consider it barebones. It has a Theme, made from the guild wars web site starter kits. You know the one with concept art and what not.

From a Guild member stand point....I've been a member of guild with not a single JPG on their forums, and they worked out great.

Also when I was searching for a guild I tried to respond to anyone that sent me a messsage. Honestly I just cut and pasted the same message over and over in replies.

Okay, as much as I hate to divulge trade secrets I will in the interest of community! I have used the LFG sticky pretty religiously since last October and in that time have added probably 60-70 people to our guild in just from that (we right now have 500+). The Guild Hall has a similar one, but since I don't hang out there I don't use it much.

Where we get most of our recruits is through word of mouth. People party with members and hear about the guild usually. We have also had 4 or 5 other guilds merge into us because they wanted a greater level of activity. We never spam in game and we have only posted once or twice in the guild section of the Guild Hall. As of right now though we get close to 20 new applications every day to our guild. It was not always like that. We grew from one guild last September to now 9 today by having pretty active presence in several parts of the game. I think anyone can do it - but it takes time and effort. And it helps when you have a couple of marketing people running the guild.

I like the idea of an centeralized guild recruting system (sounds like a good suggestion for sardelac). I'm in a tiny guild and usually at most the only people who are on to recruit is me and maybe someone else. Small guilds like mine, have an added problem in that we don't have a lot of manpower to go recruiting and since we've got so few members (too few active to GVG) no one wants to join. I don't always feel like recruiting and when I don't, no one will. :\

It's also be nice if there was a random guild feature were people could join a random guild for up to a week. It'd be completely optional and the guild leader could set up options like PvE and PvP for people looking for something specific.

The only other thing I can think of is if there were a recruiting night thread that guilds could post and on those nights, if you want to join a guild, you'll know where to find the various guilds that are looking.

Even better yet, why can ANET add a guild island that doesn't have anything like merchants or whatnot and is trade disabled which has the sole focus of people going there looking for and recruiting for guilds. There could also be an info center where you could look up information on the guild that are out there.

Funny thing I was just about to apply to your guild. (Will probably post my application on your website after my exams are over) Well, it's good to know how xoo started anyway. I guess the sticky is not as bad as I thought it to be.

I still support the centralized guild recruiting system though as it will help a lot of people out, both those that are looking for members as well as those that are looking for a guild.
